Jamie Silk equips communities and businesses to accelerate bold low carbon energy transition opportunities. Jamie connects people across sectors, and with disciplined frameworks, to seed innovative strategies and solutions that intelligently integrate renewables, flexibility and consumer value drivers.
Jamie advises the electricity network, residential, community, commercial, farm/ rural, innovator (e.g. flex), solar PV/ BESS and government agency sectors.
He also chairs the Electricity Authority Advisory Group.
Sector specialisms include flexibility and distributed system operator innovation; community (including Māori) energy; consumer and business solutions, products and toolkits; peer to peer, micro-grid and secondary network solutions; behaviour change and integrating DERs.
Jamie has been described as google translate for clean energy connecting people working innovatively across the electricity sectors diverse consumers, networks, retailers, technology and technology service providers. He delivers on this promise through the breadth of experience across the sector and disciplined human centric tools, equipping clients to understand the perspective, drivers, needs and opportunities of their stakeholders.
He draws on experience across innovators, network company R&D, retail, upstream and communities, as well as the financial, risk, innovation, product and transition disciplines of an economist (London School of Economics/ LSE), Chartered Accountant (UK), transition engineer (GATE), Cambridge Institute of Sustainability (University of Cambridge) and Creative HQ (Techstar). Current and past membership of multiple industry work groups and panels means he draws on the generously shared expertise of many mentors and peers in the industry.
Outside his day job, Jamie is/ has recently been active across community energy initiatives, environmental, sustainability and social justice not for profit governance, local government sustainability working party, regional energy transition strategy and sustainable farming innovation (silvopasture and diverse pastures). He enjoys surfing and windsurfing.
Prior to joining the New Zealand energy industry in 2005, Jamie was a Vice President at JPMorgan Chase heading product management for Multicurrency Clearing services across Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa.
